Fees

100% of the donation amount that you make as a donor on Chuffed.org goes straight to the campaign. On top of this, donors must pay the payment processing fees which go to our payment partners (these vary from 2.0%-2.9% + 30c).

Chuffed.org then offers donors the opportunity to contribute on top of this to support our organisational costs (the "optional donation"). This amount is entirely optional, and we're completely ok with donors giving us nothing.

To make sure that's completely clear, here’s an example:

Example 1

  1. A generous donor clicks on $25 donation
  2. At the payment page, the donor pays a minimum of the $25 + the transaction fees (80c) = $25.80
  3. The not-for-profit receives $25 (100% of the donation)
  4. Our payment provider receives 80c
  5. Chuffed receives nothing

Example 2

  1. A very generous donor clicks on $25 donation
  2. At the payment page, the donor pays the $25 + an optional contribution to Chuffed.org of $2 = $27.00
  3. The not-for-profit receives $25 (100% of the donation)
  4. Our payment provider receives 80c (their transaction fee)
  5. Chuffed receives $1.20 (100% of which goes towards supporting more campaigns get off the ground)

We use an "optional donation" model because we believe that it's the most transparent way for donors to see exactly how much of their donation goes to the campaign, to Chuffed.org and to the payment provider.
